What If You Can Have It All?

What if I told you you can have it all? You do not have it all when you have all your major life’s goals. Life is a journey not a destination. One of my favourite bible verses to affirm myself is Colossians 2:10 “and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Hello Wellness Buddies🥰

I woke up on Sunday morning with deep thoughts about my goals for the year and it made me think of you. I wondered how many goals you’ve set for yourself. Some people tend to start the year with a desire to be healthier, pay more attention to their loved ones, and be determined to become richer or wealthier. These priorities tend to become conflicting priorities often leaving us with a hidden dissatisfaction for some parts of our lives. Then we are consoled by “you can’t have it all” and “you can’t have it all at the same time”.

What if I told you you can have it all? You do not have it all when you have all your major life’s goals. Life is a journey not a destination. One of my favourite bible verses to affirm myself is Colossians 2:10 “and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

I remind myself that I am complete in Jesus Christ. At my core, I am beautiful and have everything I need. This mindset changes how I view the dissatisfactions in my life and while I have a goal to launch the wellness book, I also know that with or without doing it I am complete in Christ. I pray this would be your reality if it isn’t already, that amidst all the goals you are hoping to achieve you feel confident that you are complete so that your achievements do not define you or crush your identity.

I could share all the tips for achieving goals which you are most likely aware of such as making SMART goals, finding an accountability partner, and  focusing on starting small but building consistency. However, I want to encourage you with the following:

  • If you are an ant, stop trying to run like a cheetah. Recognise who you are and ensure your goal is not someone else’s or what you would like. Who are you? Some people live their lives unfulfilled as community teachers or pastors because they never made it to be worldwide pastors. Some are PA to the world’s best CEO but always felt they should be the CEO. Some will be local footballers and musicians and some will be recognised world wide for selling out stadiums. Be content in who you are but first recognise who God has called you to be or at least know if you are a cheetah or an ant. A doctor may never earn as much as a tech manager while a school teacher may never earn more than an online money mindset coach. Be content in who you are and define your goals in reverence for who you are.
  • Define success with mindful consideration to your location. I often marvel when a Nigerian earning about one million naira is upset saying that someone in the UK doing the same job is earning two thousand eight hundred pounds. The exchange rate makes 1 million seem like an insult. However, when you consider the cost of living in the UK. You may conclude that the one million naira is probably better value or similar in value to the two thousand eight hundred pounds. The desire to move forward and do better is a God thing but living everyday without appreciation for what you have because you are comparing yourself with those in a different location and different resources is not.
  • Consider your stage of life. Are you a mother with little children? Perhaps, your definition of having it all should honour your stage in life. Unless you were a thriving entrepreneur before child birth, your chances of becoming one while your children are little without strong external influences such as a financially independent spouse, solid business partner, or divine intervention are slim, you are likely not in the mental headspace nor have the physical capability to meet business demands and in some cases career growth. If you are a newly-wed and thinking you do not have it all because you are not as wealthy as your married mentor who has had 20 years of business experience and many chances to grow their career then you probably need to define what having it all means for you with consideration to your stage in life.

Perhaps, we can have it all. Perhaps we have it all, we just need to re-define and rethink what having it all means and be content within the confines of our stage of life, our location, resources, and who we are.

I am wishing you all the best in your quest to have it all. Remember, life is a marathon not a sprint. God bless you richly.
